Finding and Keeping a Pet Sitter

There are many pet sitters and pet sitting companies in Charlotte, NC. How do you find your ideal pet sitter?

Finding a Pet Sitter:

a) Talk to your friends, family and co- workers. They may be hiding a secret gold mine.
b) Check this person’s testimonials, and when you do, trust your gut. It will never steer you wrong.
c) Read this persons about us page on their website. Hopefully they have put a little bit of effort into it, and it shows a little bit of their personality. Do you think they will be the right fit for you?
d) Shop for value for money, what sort of fee structure are they? Are they a cheap pet sitter who charges per pet, and on different times, and is there going to be maybe extras charges for this and that? Or are you looking for someone who offers real good value for money at one price that’s all-inclusive. Know your budget and stick to it, but at the same time be open.

Now, you’ve got all that? Next, and the last thing in finding your pet sitter is, check that they have these three vital components.

Do they have public liability insurance? This ensures that they are protecting their own ass and taking things a little seriously.
Do they have a background check? If so, ask for copies if you feel you need to.
Lastly this is your pet kids they’re looking after…. are they qualified and skilled in pet CPR, and first aid?
Just like you wouldn’t hire a baby sitter without certain serious checks, do so with your pets.

Now that you found your ideal pet sitter, you want to keep this little nugget for a long, long time.

The secret to keeping a great pet sitter:

Invest in them. Get to know them as a person. What are their likes and dislikes? When is their birthday? Are they married? How many pets, and what types do they have? Give them a tip that you know they will adore and they will adore you a million fold.
Be open to their suggestions. A lot of pet sitters have a lot of experience with multiple breeds of dogs, and animals. Please do not be defensive if they raise a pet behavior problem, as they have got an objective view point you will not be able to see.
Constructive feedback; take a long-term approach when you do this. Pet sitters usually work with a lot of different clients with different expectations that they are juggling. Please we ask that you be a little forgiving, as unfortunately, we are human too. It’s all about the long term. Isn’t it? You want this person for many, many years to come, and not have to go ahead and find another pet sitter.
